TV Show Reviews Super Robot Wars Original Generation Divine Wars

“Super Robot Wars Original Generation: Divine Wars” is a 25 episode Japanese anime series that aired from 2006 to 2007. The series is directed by Hiroyuki Kakudou. It combines the genres of mecha and science fiction. While Super Robot Wars Original Generation: Divine Wars has an interesting storyline, it is a retelling of the events that took place in Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance.

This was a game that only featured original characters and mechs created by Banpresto for its Super Robot Wars franchise. In the anime, you will not see appearances from characters from other anime series such as “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing,” “Gundam SEED,” “G-Gundam,” “Getter Robo,” and so forth. Regardless, Super Robot Wars Original Generation: Divine Wars is still a series that is well worth watching.

The back story of the series is that Earth was hit by two meteors at the beginning of the 21st century. Earth went into chaos and everything had stopped. And a new era called the Space Era was dubbed. The time setting takes place of year 179 of the Space Era. During that time, alien technology known as the Extra-Over Technology (EOT) was discovered.

The main character is Ryusei Date, a high school student and a mecha otaku. He is a finalist for the Burning PT tournament. Ryusei gets drafted into a secret branch of the Earth Federation Army after he piloted a secret mech in the SRX Development Project. He and other gamers have been picked up either by the Earth Federation Army or the rogue faction known as the Divine Crusaders.

There are two plots behind Super Robot Wars Original Generation: Divine Wars. But the first plot eventually leads into the much bigger plot. The first plot is centered on the fight between the Earth Federation Army and the Divine Crusaders (DC). But, this is the opening with the true battle against a race of aliens known as the Aerogaters.

The series does a good job of retelling the events in the game. However, the series is great to watch if those that did not even play the games.

However, there are differences between the game and the anime. But, it is a good series to watch. For those that enjoy mecha themed anime should check out Super Robot Wars OG: Divine Wars.
