Respect of persons
James 2:1-10 (KJV)
1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:
4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?
8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Do you remember when you were in school, how the children were so parcel with each other. Did you ever wonder where they learned being parcel to one person over another? We don’t like to admit it but we are a very parcel nation. We choose sides over everything. We make one person feel better than another. We put our Presidents, movie stars and all in a higher standing compared to what we put everyday people in.
Look at how disabled people are treated over people who are able to work and support their families with out depending on anyone else. Disabled people are looked down upon and called just being too lazy to work. I truly think this is where the statement came from, “Walk a mile in my shoes!”
If we would look at everyone as an equal no matter whether we are rich, poor, able to work, not able to work, our world would be a different place to live in.
Take the teenagers of today, if one don’t have the fancy car to drive around, or the latest fashion clothes to wear, or the best grades in school, or not a teacher’s child, they don’t fit in.
Even in our Churches they are parcel to one another. Have you ever noticed when a visiting evangelist comes they are given the best seats in the house? A meal is prepared in their honor and everyone treats them as a big shot. They just can’t wait to chat with them, feeling this gives them honor to be in their presence.
What about the members when they go home? What do they do? They discuss each other member and point out what they liked or disliked about them. A stranger who came into Church is the talk of the households when the members get home. With snide remarks made in front of their children. Yes our children are well taught to be parcel to one another by no other us the grown ups.
Heavenly Father, we come to You today asking that You please forgive us of this being parcel to one another and teach us Lord by Your Word to show Your Love instead of our criticizing one another. Help us to walk more in Your way everyday and turn lose of what we have been taught in this world. Show us the right paths to walk down Lord. We ask it all in Jesus’s name and we give You the praise, honor and glory for it. Amen!
How do you think that you can change the way your were taught?
How do you think that you can teach your children to be more loving to one another?
Every evil work
James 3:16 (KJV)
16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. KJV
This really true in the churches. Have you noticed how the church will be going along real good and everything is working in the love of the Lord, and the church have new members coming in and accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Before you know it, some one gets jealous over another person and decides to start a few tales to get the person out of the job they are holding in the church. A certain one I am talking about was the treasure of the church, and she also cleaned the church and fellowship hall.
Sally went behind Linda’s back to the pastor and told him a few lies about Linda. Sally told the pastor Linda had taken money from the treasury and did not want to give the pastor and his wife $500.00 for pastor appreciation day. And a few more tales.
The pastor and his wife had used Linda to baby sit their children every since they were at this church and never paid her for keeping them. They had even borrowed Linda’s car for two weeks while their car was being fixed without paying Linda any rent or anything on the car. As the going says they rode a good horse to death.
When Sally went to the pastor and his wife what really set them off was when she claimed that Linda didn’t want to give them the money for pastor appreciation day. They called Linda into their home and gave her a real going over, and would not listen to what Linda had to say at all, in her defense.
Linda didn’t go back to the church after this happened. She had been a member of this church for over 30 years. They ended up sending her a letter saying she was kicked out of the church and her membership was canceled.
All of her friends she had known in the church for years were given orders by the pastor and his wife to not contact her or they would be kicked out of the church also. So the pastor and his wife became as dictators to the church.
So now the church is not growing or following in the teachings of the Lord any more, but in the pastors and his wife’s teachings. What brought it all about was Sally had a lot of money and threatened to cut the church off from her bank if they did not get Linda out of the church just because she did not like Linda, because Linda did not have as much money as Sally had.
Father we come to you today and ask you to please guard our lips and our tongue, help us not to belittle any of our fellow Christians. We see from this example how envy and strife can cause so much hurt and evil work. Father help us to lift up and bless our fellow Christians, in everything we do. We ask all of this in your son’s holy name Jesus Christ. Amen!
Have you ever been a Sally?
Have you ever been a Linda?
What would you have done to try to correct this problem?
Do you think the pastor was right in what he did?
What would you have done if you were the pastor?
What doth it profit
James 2:14-26 (KJV)
14What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
15If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
I remember being in a church where they were having a revival. Where I live the rivivals are mostly for getting the members revived.
I was in the altar praying and it was just as the pastor was closing the service for the night. One of the women in the congregation stood up and requested prayer for her family. She said they had a financial need. The pastor said for everyone to remember to pray for this lady’s need.
The Lord said to me no, that is not faith with works. I look at the pastor and I said, “Brother, the Word tells us plainly that if a brother or sister has a need and we have the means to help with that need, we should. We should not send them away without what they need, what does it profit?”
The pastor turn to the scripture and read it out loud to everyone and while he was reading, I went to the seat where my purse was and took out what money I had and took it and gave it to the lady.
Well everyone in that church started digging into their purses and wallets and taking the lady money. She went home with her need met that night.
Father help us all be more in tune to Your leading in a service and in our daily lives. Help us to see the needs that we can meet. Help our needs to be met also. Father I thank You for all You do for us and all Your Word teaches us. Help us to feed daily on Your Word and know how to apply it to our lives. Thank You Father in Jesus’s name we pray. Amen!
If the Lord spoke to you like He did me would you tell the pastor?
Why do you think the Lord used me at that time?
Do you think it was to see if I would obey or what?
Do you think that the pastor heard the Lord at or about the same time I did, is the reason he turned to the scripture and read it out loud?
What do you think would have happened if I had not obeyed the Lord that night?
