The Sunday results show of Strictly Come Dancing – Britain’s version of Dancing With The Stars – began with a dance by some of the professional couples, before the presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman could get on with the real business of the night – announcing which couple was going to be thrown off the show.
After last night’s programme, Pamela Stephenson had finished with the highest score from the judges, while magician Paul Daniels had ended up in last place. Having successfully avoided any online spoilers this week, would the show be more enjoyable than last Sunday’s?
First announced as safe this week were Ann Widdecombe MP and Anton Du Beke, one of those couples who are entertaining, if not so talented. Then the leaders Pamela Stephenson and James Jordan, footballer Peter Shilton and Erin Boag, then actress Patsy Kensit and Robin Windsor were all declared safe for this week. So, the first four couples safe had been announced. Everyone else would have to wait and see.
This was followed by another show dance, this time by Flavia Cacace and four of the male dancers. After a brief interview with some of the female celebrities who were safe, it was back to Tess to announce more results. The first name she announced was film star Jimi Mistry and his partner Flavia Cacace, then Matt Baker with Aliona. Actress Kara Tointon was also revealed as safe, but one couple was in the bottom two and they were magician Paul Daniels with professional partner Ola Jordan.
Another anxious waiting time, as Tess interviewed Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli to get their comments on the dancers and the results so far. Claudia then spoke to Paul Daniels about being in the bottom two and he said he felt the result was fair, he loved all his fellow competitors and would rather he left than any of the others.
This was followed by a musical interlude as Peter Andre performed his latest single. Then back over to Tess and her announcements. First to be announced safe in this section were actor Scott Maslen and Natalie Lowe, followed by actress Felicity Kendal with professional Vincent Simone. This left just two couples left – who would be in the bottom two and who would be through to next week? Michelle Williams and Brendan Cole were in the bottom two, while rugby player Gavin Henson was through.
The bottom two couples – Paul Daniels with Ola Jordan and Michelle Williams with Brendan Cole – anxiously awaited the final verdict. It was Paul Daniels leaving, while Michelle would return next week….
