It is interesting to think about the concept of infinity. Knowing that no matter how far you go, in an endless amount of time, you will never reach the end. Infinity is the endless amount of something, in many cases it involves time, space and the numeric scale. There is an infinite amount of numbers because we can continue to add a zero at the end of a number, and never end up stopping. But then there is also time and space. Could it be possible that we reside in an endless amount of space, in an endless amount of time? It’s a mind-boggling thought, but it can be narrowed down to a few possibilities.
I can argue that neither time or space is infinite. In many ways, both time and space have a beggining and an end. Think of it this way. If there was an infinite amount of time, then you would never see the next second because there would be an infinite amount of time in between this moment, and the next. This can also be used to say that space must also have an end, because if it was infinite, then you wouldn’t be able to move in any direction because there would be an infinite amount of space between your current position, and the position you want to move towards. This, of course, is theoretically true, but there is also an argument that suggests infinity is possible.
How can infinity be possible, when it has been theoretically proven wrong in the previous paragraph? Even though infinity would seem impossible, let’s consider the numeric scale. The numeric scale is infinite, but we are still able to go from number one, to number two, and so on. So could it be possible that even though space and time is infinite, we are still able to progress?
I guess in the end its safe to assume that some things cannot be understood, and can only be theorized. The very idea of an infinite amount of space in an infinite amount of time is more than enough to cause a brain-fart. Take this into consideration… If the universe was infinite, and existed as an empty space before the so-called “Big Bang”, then wouldn’t it be possible that in this infinite amount of space there were other similar big bangs, that created other similar galaxies and solar systems?
If this is true, then in an infinite amount of space, there are an infinite amount of possibilities. If space and time were infinite, then nothing would be impossible, and every imaginable situation could be occuring in an infinite amount of space somewhere else in the galaxy, and if nothing is impossible, then there are an infinite amount of Earths with the exact same order of events through time until modern day. This is all a fairy tale, because there aren’t an infinite amount of possibilities in terms of anything, and everything can be organized in a very large number, of which there will always be a greater.
