Antony Cotton is a famous English actor who is best known for his role in Coronation Street. Cotton plays the role of Sean Tully; a barman and factory worker. He is loved for his ability to play both the comedy part of his role and to take on dramatic storylines.
Cotton was born in Bury, England, in 1973. He has an older brother and his mother, Edith Dunn is an actress. He attended Woodhey High School, Ramsbottom, as well as attending The Oldham Theatre Workshop.
Like his character in Coronation Street, Antony is openly gay. In March 2010, Cotton concreted his partnership with Peter Eccleston in a ceremony that celebrated their love.
Cotton first appeared in Coronation Street in 2003. However, he was only a small part of the show for a brief period. Following a good public response to his character, Cotton became a permanent fixture on Coronation Street in 2004 and remains as a much loved character in 2011.
Although his role in Coronation Street is probably his most well known part, Cotton has years of experience and many roles under his belt. He played Alexander in the original version of Queer as Folk in the UK as well as taking a role in Absolutely Fabulous, also starring Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders. For a brief period Cotton also had his own teatime chat show. However, after the first series, the show was discontinued.
Cotton’s career has also delved into theatre, film and other endeavours. In terms of theatre appearances, Cotton has played roles in plays that include Closer to Heaven, The Hobbit and The Fifteen Streets. With regards to film, Cotton has played alongside Daniel Craig in Love is the Devil: Study for a Portrait of Francis Bacon, as well as appearing in The Wisdom Crocodiles.
Other endeavours include an appearance on Family Fortunes and won the second series of Soapstar Superstar. In the case of the latter, Cotton won £200,000. He chose to donate his winnings to a good cause, specifically, The Elton John Aids Foundation.
Currently, he is starring in the celebrity reality show, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. This involves celebrities going into the jungle and facing up to their phobias through tasks. Thus far, Cotton has proved an invaluable member of the team, in terms of completing challenges successfully, getting along with his fellow jungle mates and for cooking for the rest of the group.
