Bible Verses on Adoptions

The Holy Bible has many important verses about life, love, and God. But what about other topics? Adoption, perhaps? There are a lot of adoption agencies that go by the Word of God.

In you the orphan finds mercy.  Hosea 14:3; This verse describes an orphan finding faith in the Lord, who gives him mercy in his everyday life as in normal life.

Adoption is a wonderful thing; you may not be able to have a child, instead you are letting a little one have a life that they wouldn’t have any other way.   “To redeem them that were under the law,
that we might receive the adoption of sons.”
Galatians 4:5

It is mentioned through out the Bible on almost a regular basis, Exodus, Matthew, Romans, and Ephesians all mention adoption. The book of Exodus mentions Jochebed a Hebrew woman who had a son during the time that the Pharaoh ordered all male infants to be put to death. Jochebed couldn’t stand the idea of it and put her son in a basket and sent him down the Nile. Where he was found by one of the Pharaoh’s daughters. That baby turned out to be Moses, who was one of Gods prophets and led the Hebrews out of Egypt.

“For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship [adoption]. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father’” Romans 8:15.

There are many more verses in the Bible that mention adoption, either of the Lord, or of a needy child that became on of his disciples.

But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.   Galatians 4:4-6.   This verse talks about Jesus, God’s Son, who was adopted by Joseph and Mary when he was born.

And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me.

Matthew 18:5

Matthew talks about  his child that he cannot take care of and the family that takes her in their care when he asks them to. This verse alone is my favorite in the whole book of Matthew.

I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!

Matthew 25:40
