Jonathan “Jon” Lovitz, born July 21, 1957 in Los Angeles, California, an American actor, comedian and singer best known for serving as a cast member of Saturday Night Live. Lovitz attended Harvard School and he also studied theatre at the University of California at Irvine where he graduated in 1979. He studied acting with Tony Barr at The Film Actors Workshop and became a member of “The Groundlings” comedy troupe where he befriended Phil Hartman who later became a fellow member on Saturday Night live.
Jon was a cast member on the popular show Saturday Night live from 1985 to 1990, he had said in an interview at one point that his time on SNL was the most memorable time in his career. He was also nominated for two Emmy’s his first two years on the show, one of his most notable and liked characters on SNL was “Tommy Flanagan the Pathological Liar” whom used the catch phrase “Yeah! That’s The Ticket!”. Some of his other reoccurring characters on SNL include ” The Master Thespian” and “Tonto”. Lovitz is also known for his voice over work lending his voice to cartoons and film including “The Simpson’s” and as a voice in the Disney movie ” The Brave Little Toaster” as well as the character of Jay Sherman on the series “The Critic”. Jon has also had many cameo appearances in movies and television such as “The Wedding Singer”, ” Little Nicky”, ” Seinfeld” and more recently “Just Shoot Me” and ” Two and A Half Men”. Jon Lovitz has also lent his voice to be used for a promo video game called Banjo- Kazooie. Lovitz has also dabbled in theatre work appearing on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre in Neil Simon’s play ” The Dinner Party”. As a singer Lovitz has preformed at Carnegie Hall three times and sang the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium and at the U.S. Open.
Lovitz is probably most loved and respected for his comedic sense of humor and talent, however it was not until 1984 that he started his stand- up comedy career. He went onto opening his very own comedy club The Jon Lovitz Comedy Club at Aubergine. The club has hosted the likes of Dana Carvey, David spade, Ralph May, and Joe Rogan to name a few, the club currently hosts one show a night at 9pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Jon also has a comedy club on City Walk in Universal Studio, Hollywood, a comic short film was filmed here starring Ken Davitian better known as “Borat” featured Lovitz as well.
