It’s that time of the year again! The 2011 Academy Awards are almost here, and this year is going to be hotter than ever! The 2011 Academy Award nominees were announced on Tuesday, January 25. This year the Academy recognized many great performers from 2010. The 2011 Academy Awards will be broadcasted on February 27th.
One of the categories that always gets a lot of hype are the nominees for best actress. Natalie Portman has had a fantastic year so far. She recently starred in the psychological thriller, “Black Swan.” I would she definitely has great potential to receive an award. In “Black Swan,” Natalie played the role of Nina, a ballerina who is chosen to play a demanding role in a production. Another nominee who deserves to be mentioned is Jennifer Lawrence, for her role in “Writer’s Bone.” “Writer’s Bone” was a small independent film that ended up being one of the year’s best movies. Michelle Williams was also nominated for her work in “Blue Valentine.” Annette Bening was nominated for her role as Nic in the movie “The Kids Are All Right.” The final nominee for the 2011 Academy Awards was Hailee Steifeld for her world in “True Grit.” All of these actresses put on fantastic performances this year, and I look forward to seeing the results on the 27th.
The 2011 Academy Awards also recognized five actors for their stellar performances. James Franco was nominated for best actor in a leading role for his work in “127 Hours.” He plays a hiker who is pinned down by a boulder, and must do everything he can to survive on his own. The Academy also recognized Jesse Eisenberg for his role as Mark Zuckerberg in “The Social Network.” The movie is primarily about the creator of facebook, and his lack of social skills. Jeff Bridges has also been nominated for the 2011 Academy Awards. In the movie “True Grit” he plays a US Marshal who is hired to find a killer. Colin Firth was nominated for his work in “The King’s Speech” and Javier Bardem was nominated for his role as Uxbal in “Biutiful.” If you want to see a full list of academy award nominees, you can visit http://oscar.go.com/nominations.
Ten films were nominated for “Best Film” for the Academy Awards this year. The films included “Black Swan,” “The Fighter,” “Inception,” “The Kids Are All Right,” “The King’s Speech,” “127 Hours,” “The Social Network,” “Toy Story 3,” “True Grit,” and “Winter’s Bone.” This year was certainly a fantastic year for movies, and the 2011 Academy awards should be an exciting time to see which film will be chosen as the winner.
